iPhone 12 vs iPhone 14: Is The Upgrade Worth It?
On September 16, 2022, Apple released a new model; the iPhone 14. Although this new model does not render the old one useless, it still caused a great sensation. No doubt, it’s going to reign for the next twelve months. Why?
Because it made a lot of people start wondering if they should upgrade to the new model. Or stick to their old cargo. iPhone 12 is almost the same as the iPhone 14. Well, except for a few modifications which we will be talking about in this article.
According to TechRadar, The iPhone 14 is a capable smartphone with a seriously snappy CPU, lovely screen, and good cameras.
It pales in comparison to the iPhone 14 Pro, but then you will also be saving $200 / £250 / AU$350. If you’re not looking for a big screen on a budget, this solid device might be for you. This unspectacular iPhone has a couple of really cool next-generation features that you may never use.
Furthermore, a review also stated that;
“It’s a little hard to get excited about an iPhone that features last year’s design, last year’s screen, and last year’s CPU. But taken on its own – out of the substantial shadow of the new iPhone 14 Pro – Apple’s new iPhone 14 looks like a pretty darn good smartphone.”
A TechRadar verdict also stated that it’s easy to dismiss the iPhone 12 as just ‘more of the same. Especially when you consider the new and compact iPhone 12 mini is also an option, you can always go for the iPhone 13 series now.
However, 5G networks are continuing to roll out across the globe. The MagSafe addition is also a useful addition to the iPhone arsenal.
These things are combined with an improved design and screen. Meaning that the iPhone 12 will become more useful the longer you own it.
It’s no longer the latest iPhone thanks to the iPhone 13, and it doesn’t come with a charger in the box. Yes, there are environmental benefits to this, but you may need to factor buying a new charger into the cost of your new iPhone plus the higher price.
However, before your mind starts to yarn for upgrading to iPhone 14, let us take a look at its pros and cons.
Pros
+Familiar design and quality build
+New heat dissipation interior
+Better TrueDepth camera
+Emergency satellite communications
Cons
-The notch remains
-Last generation A15 Bionic chip
-A mostly minor upgrade
How about checking out the pros and cons of the iPhone 12 as well

Nonetheless, there is one more to consider. This old model might be a little scarce. This is because you can no longer get it directly from Apple, only a few that still circulates is available.

iPhone 12 vs iPhone 14 Design
Looking at the iPhone 14 design, we discovered that it is nearly identical to iPhone 13 design. The SIM slot is gone (US-only). it has the same notched Super Retina XDR display similar to iPhone 13.
Apart from the little structural differences, the aluminum frame, button placement, stereo speaker grilles, lightning port, and even the screen are almost all the same.
This is a better option if you are not a fan of notch. It rocks a nifty new Dynamic Island owned by Apple. It also has an adaptive rate that’s always on display.
Furthermore, a sprinkler check was done on the phone. It was fine, meaning that the phone could survive a substantial amount of heat.
Although it looked quite the same, iPhone 14 does not casually fit in any of the old model’s cases. At 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8mm, it’s just slightly thicker than the iPhone 13
However, iPhone 12 is a revamped design that feels reminiscent of the iPhone 4. It has a New Ceramic Shield that ensures the phone is stronger.
It also has IP68 water and dust resistance, so it’s built to withstand water. The iPhone 12 seems more like a revamped version of the iPhone 4 or 5.
People tend to get comfortable with it after 3 to 4 weeks of using it. None of its features says it could survive a crash or fall. It’s okay to get protective accessories for your device.
Note that, last year’s iPhone 13 and 13 mini were not run by the same A15 Bionic. This A15 Bionic has a five-core GPU, unlike the four-core GPU in iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
